I’ve seen this many times, maybe you have too. There is someone attaining a certain level of success that you would like to have.
❓So what do you do❓
You start copying everything that you can see that person or business doing.
Seems like a good idea on the surface. They are getting certain results, you want those same results, so you just start copying them.
The problem with this is that the things that you see are only telling you a part of the story.
For instance, there are a lot of spectacular mountain and outdoor athletes out there. If you want to climb, hike, paddle, fly like them there are many more things you need to consider than just copying their workout routine.
Building a strategy for your business is similar to this in that building a strategy or a strategic plan is not necessarily something that you can just carbon copy from someone else. There is a certain level of context that is missing when you approach it this way.
There needs to be an authentic feel to the strategy that you are building for your business and company that needs to resonate with everyone in the organization, otherwise you will create a disconnect.
This authenticity comes when you ensure that your core values line up with the vision & mission and then inform the activities that you are doing.

Have you ever tried to copy someone else and then wondered why you didn’t get the same results?
