Time for a Downshift?

It has been a reflective month for me. Processing through all of the change that has happened recently is something that I am still doing but am getting some clarity on. Over the past four months, this is a short list of the significant changes; New job, Moved across 6 States to be closer to my wife’s family in NM and published my 2nd full-length book, “The War Within Us” (https://amzn.to/3Kne8Qe). Just these alone would suggest that I have been through some significant changes, and doing my reflection was necessary for me.

During my reflection, I realized some things don’t resonate with me any longer, or at least at this moment. One of those things is being regularly present on social media. I was doing a lot of writing and posting my writing in the hopes that I could make a side income from it. Although I am making a few dollars here and there, which I am grateful for, it doesn’t match the energy I was putting into it.

Kylie and I were out to dinner a few weeks ago at a brewery in Ruidoso, NM, called Downshift Brewing. They had this definition of Downshift on their wall, which resonated so much for me.

Downshift: verb-A change in course or perspective, choosing to celebrate the beauty and brevity of life and embracing the elements that make it great.

I loved this more than calling things a reset, so I downshifted. What I have learned as a result of taking a step back is this; for me to embrace life and the things that make it great for me, it doesn’t include being on social media a lot. I will continue to write and publish books because I enjoy doing that much more than I ever thought. But I have taken a step back from blogging as much as I was because I wasn’t finding the harmony that I thought I would.

Speaking of publishing books, I have published a few books in the last little while. Here are the links to them if you’d like to check them out:

So I will leave you with a question, do you need to take a downshift? Is it time to leave the fast lane and return to what is important to you? Only you know the answer to that, but personally, I have no intention of spending all of my time on social media; I would rather “celebrate the beauty and brevity of life and embracing the elements that make it great.”
